If you are in hunt of a classic structured medium size bag, but aren’t too fussed on what bag, I would suggest steering clear of the Peekaboo. Furthermore, as mentioned it is a classic bag but that being said, there are plenty of other classic bags in the market at present at lower price points, therefore I would only suggest investing in the Peekaboo if you keen on this bag in itself, rather than just looking for a classic bag for your collection. My first piece of advice would be to try this bag on in store, just so you get an idea of the weight of it, in addition to whether you’d be comfortable carrying the bag on the longer strap.
I definitely love mine, and use it a fair bit, but there are a number of things I wish I knew before purchasing. Overall, the Peekaboo isn’t a perfect bag, however it is classic and versatile enough to warrant a fair bit of usage and potentially a large investment. However, if for instance you drive everywhere or have an extremely strong upper body, this may not be a concern, it is just something to keep in mind.
For instance, if like me you live in a large city and have to walk a fair bit this bag may not be ideal for you, as by the end of the day when you are on a cram packed underground train on your way home you may feel like you are carrying a deadweight on your arm.
This issue might not phase some people, I think it really depends on your lifestyle and how you use the bag. I will note that despite the bag being able to fit loads of stuff, I tend to only carry the essentials when I use the bag due to the issue of the weight. It is a heavy bag for sure, even when empty, buy the time you put all your stuff in there it does have some considerable weight to it. The classic Peekaboo in Medium weights roughly 1.2kg, with the tasselled version weighting slightly more at 1.6kg. The Weight: As I mentioned earlier the Medium size is perfect for all your daily essentials, but the weight of this bag empty needs to be considered. Despite coming close to buying the classic black one a few times, it just never stuck, think I was still determined to find this fringed version despite how futile it seemed. After a while I started to give up on the idea of finding the Fringe Peekaboo (at a reasonable price) and thought I might be better off just going to Fendi and buying a classic black one. I spent countless hours trolling every luxury resale website I could think of to try and find this bag, but with no luck. Although I was never going to buy it for 6k second hand, especially when its retail price was roughly £4,500, I have been obsessed with the idea of this bag ever since. I first spotted the Fringe Peekaboo on Vestiaire Collective a few years ago, selling for a whopping £6,000.
I will note that this fringed version of the bag was limited edition and is no longer available (although it can occasionally be found on resale websites), however the classic black version of the Iconic Peekaboo is available here, and most of the elements of my review other than a few minor details will be relevant to the classic version as well. The bag being reviewed today is the Iconic or Original Fendi Peekaboo in the Medium size in black grain leather, with tassel/fringe detailing also in black grain leather.
